　　法兰西共和国的象征之一是个想象中的名叫玛丽安的少女。玛丽安应该是什么
样子？法国人倾向于找一个现实生活中的女性来代表她。由于理想的女性气质因时
代而变化，因此每隔几年全国的市长们就集中在一起选出新的原型，以使玛丽安具
有时代感。

　　而最近超级名模莱悌霞·卡斯达被选为玛丽安的化身引起了一些人的抗议，他
们认为像卡斯达那样迷人的性感明星并不能真正代表法国妇女。法国南部的伊格雷
村的村长雅克·罗朗于上周一的情人节组织了一次抓阄来选择更合适的人选。

　　伊格雷村的主广场将以获胜者、37岁的已婚女药剂师帕斯戛乐·维尔热的名字
命名。维尔热女士说她兴奋极了，虽说广场的名字明年会改变，因为抓阄将成为一
年一度的活动。本次抓阄共有683人参加，每人付50法郎，这笔钱将用于美化村庄。


　　在主广场，村长还挂上了匾，上面写道：这块匾代表着村政委员会对新千年的
希望与祝愿，祝愿生活在这个世界、这个社会的妇女将不必再为得到世人认可而苦
苦斗争。

like?The　French　prefer　to　select　a　real　woman　to　serve　as　
the　model　for　representations　of　her.　　Since　ideals　of　
femininity　change　over　time,a　new　prototype　is　chosen　by　the　
assembled　mayors　of　France　every　few　years　to　keep　Marianne　
up　to　date.

　　The　recent　choice　of　supermodel　Laetitia　Casta　as　the　new　
embodiment　of　Marianne　has　drawn　protests　from　those　who　view　
a　glamorous　sex　symbol　like　Casta　as　not　really　representative　
of　the　women　of　France.Jacques　Laurent,the　mayor　of　the　
southern　French　village　of　Eygalayes,organized　a　draw　on　St　
Valentine's　Day　to　select　a　more　suitable　figure.

　　The　main　square　in　Eygalayes　will　be　renamed　after　the　
winner,37-year-old　married　chemist　Pascale　Verges.Mme　Verges　
declared　herself　thrilled,even　though　the　name　of　the　square　
will　change　again　next　year　-　the　draw　is　slated　to　become　
an　annual　event.Some　683　contestants　paid　50　francs　(￥60)　
each　to　enter　the　draw;　the　funds　will　go　to　beautifying　the　
village.　

　　In　the　main　suare,　the　mayor　has　put　up　a　sign　reading:　
\"This　plaque　symbolizes　the　hope　and　wish　of　the　municipal　
council　for　a　new　millennium　when　the　women　of　this　world　
and　of　this　society　will　not　have　to　　struggle　for　
recognition.\"
