　　洛杉矶：在美国和波多黎各的70个入关口岸，一共有640支由警犬和训练人员组
成的小分队在为美国海关总署巡查。上周四，海关总署的一只优秀的警犬在功成名
就后退休了，它在工作期间曾嗅出了价值超过一亿二千万美元的毒品。这只名为帕
克的警犬是一只棕色的拉布拉多猎犬，它结束了在洛杉矶国际机场与附近长岛港口
为期9年的巡查生涯。

　　－Over　640　teams　of　dogs　and　handlers　patrol　70　ports　of　
entry　in　the　US　and　Puerto　Rico　for　the　US　Customs　Service.　
　On　Thursday　one　of　the　service's　top　dogs　retired　after　a　
successful　career　during　which　he　sniffed　out　over　$120　
million　in　narcotics.　　Pucker,　a　brown　Labrador　retriever,　
ended　a　nine-year　stint　helping　patrol　the　Los　Angeles　
International　Airport　and　the　nearby　port　of　Long　Beach.　　?

　　Over　the　years　Pucker's　sensitive　nose　discovered　nearly　2,
500　pounds　of　cocaine,　more　than　2,000　pounds　of　marijuana　
and　32　pounds　of　opium.　　His　biggest　single　haul　was　174　
pounds　of　cocaine　hidden　under　the　deck　of　a　fruit-laden　
cargo　ship　from　Colombia,　officials　of　the　federal　agency　said.

　　The　Customs　Service　threw　a　retirement　party　complete　with　
a　dogfood　cake　that　Pucker　shared　with　his　fellow　canine　
detectives.　　Originally　recruited　from　a　pound　in　Fairfax,　
Virginia,　he　will　spend　his　golden　years　with　his　handler　in
