大家好，『翻译练习』（第十一期）与大家见面了，感谢大家的参与，我们会对积极参与的朋友予以奖励。我们争取每周发布一期，希望大家共同探讨翻译的问题，让我们一起进步。

我一向认为，从自己和别人的失误中学习进步最快，这个栏目已经办了十期了，相信大家肯定有所体会吧。有时候会觉得这句话明明知道什么意思，可就是不能用中文很好地表达出来。这次来段节日介绍吧，文章不长，希望大家好好琢磨琢磨。

                      端午节
   公元前278年，也就是屈原62岁那年，他在汨罗江边，听到秦国军队攻破了楚国的国都。便怀着悲痛的心情，抱了一块石头，投汨罗江自杀了。那天正好是农历5月5日。
   楚国人民非常热爱屈原。汨罗江附近的老百姓听到屈原自杀的消息，都纷纷赶来，划着渔船，拿着竹竿，四处打捞屈原的遗体，结果什么也没有打捞到。大家非常失望，又十分怀念屈原。他们担心屈原的遗体被江里的鱼虾吃掉，就划着船，把包好的粽子扔到江里去给鱼虾吃。以后．每到农历5月5日这一天，中国人家家户户都包粽子，吃粽子，表示对伟大诗人屈原的纪念。这就是中国人民的传统节日“端午节”。

In 278 BC, the year when Qu Yuan was at his age of 62, he heard the news that Qin's troops had invaded Chu's capital when standing beside the Mi Lo River. Thus, he plunge himself down to the Mi Lo River, with a stone clasped.

The people of Chu were in very respect of Qu Yuan. After hearing Qu's sueside, people near the bank of the river crowded to the river, sailing the boats and holding the bamboo to look for his body. However they found nothing. People were very disappointed, and they missed Qu Yuan deeply. Since they were afraid that Qu's body would be eaten by fishes and shrimps in the river, people sailed the boat to the river, and thrown the zonzi into the river to feed the fishes and shrimps. Since then, every fifth day of the fifth month on the lunar calender, every Chinese family  is cooking are eating zonzi in the memoir of Qu Yuan, the great poet. That is Chinese traditional holiday — the Dragon Boat Festival.

In 278 B.C, when Mr.Qu Yuan was 62 years old, he heard about an awful news by the Miluo river, the army of Qin had captured Chu's capital.That means his home country was ruined. Feeling so sorrow, he then jumped into the Miluo river taking with a big stone, suicide himself. The day was May 5th in lunar calendar.

People in Chu loved Mr. Qu very much. When the people near Miluo river heard of this, they hurried came in boat with long poles and tried to salvage Mr. Qu's body all around, but found nothing. People felt so disappointed and missed Qu so much that began to threw Zongzi, glutinous rice dumpling, into Miluo river to feed the fish and shrimp, wishing the fish and shrimp would not eat Qu's body.

From then on, whenever on the day of May 5th in lunar, all us Chinese will make and eat Zongzi to memorize the great poet Qu Yuan. That is the Chineses traditional fesitval "Dragon Boat Festival".

278 BD, when he was at the age of 62, Quyuan stood on the river of Miluo, hearing that forces of Qin oocupied the capital of Chu dynasty. Being so depressed, he carried a stone and threw himself into the river and died. That day was just lunar calendar May 5th.
The people in Chu dynasty loved Quyuan very much. The civilians living by the Miluo river heard the news of Quyuan and came one by one. They drove their fishing boats, holded bamboo pole and salvaged the remain of Quyuan, but they got nothing. They were very disappointed. The people were so missed Quyuan and feared that his remain was eaten by the fishes and shrimps in the river, that they threw rice tamales to fishes and shrimps in the river. Later, on every lunar calendar May 5th, every Chinese family do and eat rice tamales in memory of Quyuan. This is the Chinese traditional “dragon boat festival”.

In the year of 278 BC, in which Qu Yuan was at the age of 62, he heard that the troop of Qing had taken in the capital city of Chu while walking along the river ‘Miluo’. Qu Yuan was so frustrated that he made his mind to jump into the river ‘Miluo’ holding a huge rock in his arms. Then he died. It happened to be in May 5th in lunar calendar.
As people of Chu were holding strong attachment to Qu, having heard the sad news about Qu’s suicide, they came aroud from different directions on their boat and hold a long stick in hand tring to find Qu’s dead body, but nothing found. They were very frustrated and missed Qu very much. In case of dead body been eaten by fish in the river, they thrown a kind of packed food called ‘Zongzi’ into the river ‘Miluo’ to feed fish to prevent them from eating Qu’s dead body. So every year later, on each May 5th of lunar calendar, every Chinese family would make ‘Zongzi’ and eat ‘Zongzi’ for memorizing the great poet Qu Yuan. So this is the original story about Chinese festival ‘dragon boat festival’.

Duanwu Festival

History returns back to the year of 278 BC. On May 5th of Chinese lunar year, lingering along the bank of Miluo River, Qu Yuan was informed that the capital of Chu which was his hometown had been occupied by the troops of Qin State. Filled with heartstriken sorrow, the old man, aged 62 then, finally drowned himself with a piece of large stone.

On hearing such a shocking news about their most respected man, the people nearby gathered immediately, jumping into their boats and looking for the body of Qu Yuan with the bamboo poles. But they failed.

The disappointed people with deep sorrow and anxiety then oared their boats into the Miluo River and threw rice dumplings wrapped with bamboo leaves, which are called zongzi today, in order to distract the fish from distrubing Qu Yuan.

For commemorating Qu Yuan, one of the greatest poet of ancient China, it is since then that Chinese people make and enjoy zongzi. And the lunar day of May 5th every year has been one of the important Chinese traditional festivals --- Duanwu Festival.

   The people of the State of Chu had deep love for Qu Yuan very much. After  hearing  the news that Qu Yuan committed suicide , people near the  Miluo river come one after another . They rowed the fishing boat, held the bamboo pole , salvaged Qu Yuan's remain everywhere, but nothing was salvaged at last. Being very disappointed, everybody cherished Qu Yuan very much. They rowed the boat, throwing Zongzi wrapped before into the river for the fishes and shrimps to eat , because they were afraid that Qu Yuan's remain might be eaten up by the fishes and shrimps in the river .

   Afterwards , on May 5 such as lunar calendar each year, every family in China all make Zongzi and eats Zongzi to show the commemoration to great poet Qu Yuan. This is the Chinese traditional festival " Dragon Boat Festival ".

From then on, every year, at 5th day of the fifth month of lunar calendar, all the Chinese family will wrap Zongzi and eat Zongzi in order to commemorate the great poet Quyuan. This is the traditional ”dragon boat festival ” of Chinese.

The Duanwu Festival , one of important Chinese traditional festivals, originated from a legend.

The legend goes like this: Quyuan was a great respected poet in State Chu. In 278 B.C., learning ,at 62, that the capital city of his state was seized by the soldiers of State Qin, he threw himself into Miluojiang River with a stone and ended his life in sorrow. The date was just the 5th of May in Chinese Lunar Calendar.

The Chu people loved Quyuan truly. When word came that Quyuan suicided, the ordinary people around Miluojiang River came immediately, rowing their boats, and searching for Qu’s corpse with bamboo poles everywhere in the river. To their disappointment, they got nothing. Nevertheless, they missed him terribly.Therefore, they rowed boats and threw already-made rice dumplings into the river for fishes and shrimps lest Qu’s body should be eaten by them.

From then onwards, the Chinese people, every family, wrapped and ate rice dumplings in honour of the great poet on the 5th of May in Chinese Lunar Calendar each year

of Qu Yuan. This is one of the Chinese traditional festival---Dragon Boat Festival.

They took the fishing boat to salvage the body of quyuan using the bamboo but got nothing.they were disappointed and missed quyuan so much.For worring about the body of quyuan,which could be eated by the fish and shrimp, so they throwed the glutinous rice dumpling into the river to feed the fish and shrimp. Then ,Every family of Chinese all bundle and eat the glutinous rice dumpling ,expressing our memory on the great poet quyuan at the 5th May of Chinese traditional  calendar . This is the traditional festival of the Chinese people"Dragon Boat Festival".
