What is immunosuppression? Immunesuppression is the inhibition of the immune response.Immunosuppression can be caused by natural or man-made factors. Natural immunosuppression contains natural immune tolerance and the body may fail to produce immune response to his own tissues. In past, radiation therapy is used to reduce the strength of the immune system. But doctors prefer to choose immunosuppressive drugs to suppress response of immune system now. Tacrolimus is regarded as the preferred immunosuppressive drugs after major operations.
How does Tacrolimus work? Tacrolimus utilizes and binds to cell protein (FKBP12), then accumulates and has an effect in cells. FKBP12- tacrolimus complex will bind and suppress calcinurin specifically. It also suppress calcium-dependent message conduction generated by T cells. Thus it can prevent discontinuities lymphokine gene transcription. The drug is highly immunosuppressive drugs, and its activity in vitro and in vivo have been confirmed by experiments.
