This book presents a multi-authored study of Europeanization across the twentieth century from the First World War to the present day.

This volume is the product of a team of British and German historians who came together because of our shared interest in exploring whether the concept of Europeanization is a useful one when applied to the history of twentieth-century Europe. We are grateful to all those who enabled us to develop this project and to bring it to fruition. In particular, we are grateful to the German Research Council, the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) and the Arts and Humanities Research Council (the AHRC) for funding the three-year research programme that enabled us to hold the four workshops out of which this volume has emerged. In particular, we owe an especial debt to Marion Müller of the DFG, who initially encouraged us in preparing this funding application.
