  小时候我学素描的时候，有时脸部的明暗画得过重了，想擦掉重新上过，老师教我们一个偷懒的办法：把整个背景涂黑些，这样看上去是光线暗导致脸部较黑，而并非找了个黑脸mm当模特。于是用6B的铅笔一阵猛涂背景——明暗的对比渐渐让脸呈现自然，不禁对这个技巧小佩服。以后我才发现对比（Comparison，Contrast）这种手法——为了凸显一个东西，把另一个相似或完全相反的东西放在一旁衬托——其实一直被艺术家们玩转在手心。

I. 文艺作品中的对比手法



  毕加索为了凸显美女杂技演员在球上轻盈的身姿，特地找了个壮汉稳稳坐在一旁四方石头上，右侧稳重的构图把左侧mm的身形衬托得富有动态（Acrobat on a Ball, 1905）；盛传海顿为了教训听他作品时瞌睡的伪小资，特地在《惊愕》交响曲(Sinfonie mit dem Paukenschlag 英译\"symphony with the kettledrum stroke\"; 英文名：Surprise Symphony)第二乐章舒缓旋律中突然“咚”来一声巨响——其实海叔在晚年澄清，他放这么一个强烈的对比只是想给大家带来一点点新奇感而已，并无太多恶意（\"No, but I was interested in surprising the public with something new\"）；
  翻开文字作品，对比的手法更是处处可见：1. 作家有时候喜欢把人和自然做个比较，比如路人皆知的莎翁十四行Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day，先贬上一通夏天的种种不是来突出他心上人永存的美貌（But thy eternal summer shall not fade, Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow’st;）；2. 更常见的是把两个性格完全相反的人物做个对比，文学术语专门有个词叫foil（A character whose qualities or actions serve to emphasize those of the protagonist (or of some other character) by providing a strong contrast with them.
