Ich hab gesehn gar manchen Herrn,
Avec que la marmotte,
der hat die Jungfrau gar zu gern,
Avec que la marmotte.
Hab' auch gesehn die Jungfer sch
It is indeed an traditional French, sung by Savoyen beggar boys, who came with their "marmottes" across Europe, and so finally to Bonn, where young Beethoven lived. There he learned to know this song.
I would never guess that this is a Beethoven song. I'd say it's a traditional french song. Ah ja, we are learning all life
You are right Janja. There is a very large volume of leider/song compositions by many composers that have crossed many language barriers. The "Adelaide" song is a perfect example.(此处甚至说<阿德莱德>也不是贝多芬作的曲)

Marmots were often used by travelling musicians with hurdy-gurdies to perform various tricks.
