How did Hu Shih write letters in English

信是一九五四年五月二十五日在纽约写的，写给一位Mr. Vaill。胡先生的英文字跟他的中文字一样漂亮，似乎还要豪放一些。信上讲的是胡先生应邀到耶鲁大学参加庆典发表演讲的事。胡先生先说有一位Mr. James Yen不能赴会，深感可惜；接着是谢谢收信人给他延长演讲时间到三四十分钟。他说讲三十分钟比讲十五分钟容易。胡先生说他六月十一日要到康乃尔大学去参加他班上的第四十周年重聚联欢会；联欢会为期三天，到十三日结束，但他会赶在十三号那天回纽约转火车到纽海文去赴会。胡先生请收信人尽快通知时间、地点及其他安排。原信是这样写的：

　　Hearty thanks for your letters.

　　I am very sorry that Mr. James Yen cannot come for the celebration.

　　I am grateful to you for giving me additional time so that I may \"talk to 30 or 40 minutes\". It is easier to make a 30-minute speech than a 15-minute one.

　　I am going to Cornell on June 11 for the 40th Reunion of my Class(1914). Although the Reunion is to last 3 days (June 11-13), I shall return to New York on the 13th to change train for New Haven for your meeting in the evening.

　　Kindly inform me with the \"details of time (8 pm?), place and arrangements\" as soon as you can.
