AS the Chinese lunar new year approaches, many travellers are worried they may miss out on family celebrations.
The official Spring Festival public holiday begins on the first day of the Chinese New Year, bypassing New Year's Eve. People who are required to work that day could miss their family banquet.
Because of this, many are calling for the official New Year holiday to include New Year's Eve. According to a poll on www.daqi.com, over 90 percent of the people support this proposal.
However, the opposition argues that Spring Festival actually begins on New Year's Day, not on New Year's Eve. In many Western countries — in the US, for instance — Christmas Eve is not a public holiday.
What do you think? Should Chinese New Year's Eve bean official public holiday? |
