Learn to see stress in a positive way

A junior from the South-Central University for Nationalities committed suicide. According to some news reports, he did so because of stress and depression.

This was not the first case of this kind. A stunning recent report from Shanghai said that a study of 1,000 university students found 25 per cent had thoughts of suicide because of stressful or depressing conditions.

It's true that stress exists in school. There are exams, interpersonal conflicts, failed romances, and so on.

So, how do we deal with these adversities? Well, as one person said: \"In the Chinese language, the word 'crisis' has two characters: danger and opportunity.\"

Ralph Waldo Emerson, the American writer and philosopher, also said: \"There is scientific value in adversity, a good learner won't miss an opportunity to learn.\"

To cope with stress, one needs to learn to see it in a positive light and to develop an effective way to manage one's emotions and actions.

If you fail in an exam, you could see it as a reminder that you need to attend to academic work. You can improve and learn more. This is better than waiting to find out that you lack the necessary knowledge during a job interview after graduation.

If you are dumped and are broken-hearted, don't despair. You could consider that this person was not the ideal match for you and that there must be someone more suitable out there.

In my opinion, stress can be a blessing if you are determined to win.

Suicide is nothing more than a lie. Some people may believe that death is a complete relief. However, the truth is that suicide will cause a lot more problems than it appears to be resolving.

It will cause some people to blame themselves for the rest of their lives for not having helped that person at a critical moment. It will result in never-ending sorrow for those who care for the dead person.

The irony is that, if one can have the courage to die, he or she might just as well have the courage to live.

After all, life is no computer game where you can just start it all over again. Life is a struggle and enjoyment that you should never quit.
