CONSUMERS should know some common terms:
Natural: Implies that ingredients are taken directly from plant or animal products. Natural ingredients can cause allergies.
Hypoallergenic: Hypo- means \"less\". The term indicates the product is less likely to cause allergic reactions. However, such a product may still cause skin reactions.
Shelf-life (expiration date): The time during which a product can be safely used. Storing cosmetics in damp, warm places can lead to earlier expiration.
Ingredients: In the US and Europe, cosmetic manufacturers list product ingredients from the greatest to the least amount. If vitamin C is 15th on the list, you're not getting much of it.
Overall tips:
1. Go for simple products with fewer ingredients. This means fewer chemicals and irritants.
2. Read labels carefully. Know which ingredients you want to avoid and which ingredients work for you. |
