北京标致:一“简”钟情

Beijing Posh: Falling in Love with Its Thrift at the First Sight

北京标致家具有限公司始创建于1986年。二十载的风雨兼程,铸就了“标致家具”这一举世瞩目的品牌。其“圣瓦伦丁”、“凯欧丽斯”等产品系列已经成为国内外消费者公认的一流品牌。标致公司对广州家具博览会展非常重视,已经连续六年通过积极参与展会来提高产品的销量,扩大订单,提升企业的知名度。标致公司以生产欧式古典实木家具为主。谈到标致实木家具,该公司销售部副总经理徐先生介绍说,标致家具的与众不同之处在于其精美的手工雕刻,因为他们拥有一支训练有素的设计师和雕刻师队伍。作为一个在国际上都具有强大影响力的家具生产企业,标致产品远销中东,欧洲,美国等地,并且在中东有许多的分公司,订单数量很大;而在国内,标致产品也遍布于神州各地市场,除西藏外,青海,海南,东北等全国各地都有标致的专卖店。

Established in 1986, Beijing based Posh Furniture Co., Ltd. has undergone 20 years’ development and achieved the world-famous brand, “Posh Furniture”. Such product series as Saint Valentin, King Liness, and so forth, have been the first-class brands recognized by the consumers from home and abroad. Posh Furniture Co., Ltd. attaches great importance to Guangzhou Furniture Exposition. Through 6 years’ proactive participation, it has increased sales volume and orders, as well as enhanced the reputation of the company. The main product of Posh Furniture is classic wood furniture with European style. When referring to the posh wood furniture, Mr. Xu, the associate manager of the sale department, said that the unique feature of Posh furniture lies in its beautiful manual sculpture, because Posh Furniture Co., Ltd. has a group of well-trained designers and sculptors. As one of the most influential furniture manufactures in the world, Posh Co., Ltd. has sold its products in Middle East, Europe, American, and so on. It has many branches gaining a large number of orders in Middle East. The Posh products are also sold in most domestic market. Qinghai province, Hainan province, Northeastern china, and so on, all except Xizang province have the exclusive agencies for the sale of Posh furniture.

When talking about Guangzhou Furniture Expo., Mr. Xu said, “Guangzhou Furniture Expo. is a product exposition that has internationally important impact. The objective of our participation in this exposition is to know more distributors, develop more customers, as well as open and develop the domestic and foreign market.” Concerning the characteristics of the products involved in this exposition, Mr. Xu thought that the Posh products are thriftier than the previous ones, and fashion elements were added on the basic of classic ones to meet the requirement of the modernist.

标致公司对广州展会非常的重视,展会前期也做了大量的准备工作。记者了解到,标致公司近两年加大了广告的投放力度,而今年的广告投入比以往都要大。广告通常附带有大量的图片,形式包括一些户外广告,地铁站和展馆内的广告,展会快报广告等。徐先生认为,通过广告,能够增进消费者和经销商对标致产品的了解,提升企业的信誉度。

Posh Furniture Co., Ltd. attaches great importance to Guangzhou Furniture Exposition, making tremendous preparations in the early stage of the exposition. The recent two years have seen the increase in the advertisement investment, which in this year is the most compared with those in the previous years. In general, pictures have been added to the advertisement, and the form includes outdoor advertisement as well as the advertisement in subway stations, exposition rooms, exposition letter, and so forth. Mr. Xu thought that the advertisement could make the consumers and distributors improve the understanding of the Posh products, so as to enhance the reputation of the company.

It’s the habit of Posh people to pursue the high quality of the products. In addition, Posh people also attach great importance to the after-sale service. 双关(pun)一般的翻译策略是(除非罕见的两种语言中的天成之配):1选择其中之一意象作集中处理2 替换“双关”这一修辞为其他修辞类型。针对你的文章,我有以下看法和建议:
第一种翻译法,直接用Posh Furniture: a Star Company (该公司是否集团性质,从文章看不出来的,你文内的公司名译法除非有佐证,否则是有问题的;文中对公司及其产品介绍是重点,此译法试图沟通二者;英语标题崇简,突出对象即可,具体信息在文中处理);
第二种翻译法,“这次展会上的标致产品将比以前要简约,是在古典的基础上加入了时尚的因素,以更好地满足现代人需求理念。”——这一句是其中唯一谈到“简”概念的,所以可以判断,“钟情”是作者主要要表达的,“简”则作为一个附加品质提及,不过,你若真看重所谓双关,思路不妨跳出中文模式,以“Brevity is Beauty ——A Record of Beijing Posh Furniture Company"译之,换双关辞格为头韵辞格。(你文中用的thrift不妥)

公司名及产品系列是有根据的,一般翻译前都到google查过这些专有名词,请参考http://www.poshfurniture.com/english/index_cn.htm

第一种译法,我觉得没有把重点表达出来。这篇报道突出公司本次产品的简约特性,以吸引读者对此次参展的注意。
第二种译法,我认同你的说法。我是学化工的,翻译只是业余爱好,乡下人不懂什么叫头韵辞格阿。另外,此处的“简”是简约的意思,而brevity意思是(时间)短暂, (讲话, 文章等)简短,美国传统字典解析是The quality or state of being brief in duration. 短促,短暂在时间上简暂的性质或状态/Concise expression; terseness. 简短表达简明扼要;简短,所以你用它没有表达简约的意思。文章在这里应该是相对以前产品的豪华、奢侈来说的,而现在的产品特点是简朴节约。

文章的翻译还请指教。本人以前参加过寒假口译培训班,所以现在翻译也是口译那种风格,看到文章就开始翻译,中间很少停下来,所以译文应该有很多不连贯的地方。看过的翻译理论书很少,大家有什么书推荐呢。

词意都出自词境。
标题讨论是很重要的,和口译不同,笔译中很看重这一点,因为对标题的判断会直接影响到你后边的行文安排,譬如,如果你真认为文章以产品(或其特性之类)为重点,那么开篇就得突出,而把讲公司的内容后置。至于具体操作,译无定法,我举个可能的译法相切磋吧:Posh Furniture, a world-renowned brand, comes out of the 20 years of stubborn efforts by Beijing Posh Furniture Co., Ltd. The company, estblished in 1986, enjoys a wide acclaim among customers home and abroad with its product series of Saint Valentin, King Liness, etc,
