The activities of American youth

1)When we mention American youth, maybe most of us will think about extreme sports, hip-hop and so on. American youth are likely to be a bunch of guys who enjoy adventures, sometimes they are even connected with crimes and drugs. But actually it is a delusion. There are only a small number of American youth who enjoy this kind of activities. Most of them are quiet the same as we do. They spend most of their time studying. In American universities or high schools, you also can see people reading their books almost everywhere, in the dining hall, in the library, or even on the corridors. They also work very hard just as we do. There are some photos. You can see different kinds of academic activities.

2)In their spare time, they enjoy parties very much for not any other purposes, but just for fun. They always drinking, dancing, trying every possible ways to enjoy themselves, even sometimes having sex. A lot of fraternities host parties on weekends and they usually charge about five dollars to get in, then you can drink as much as you want. There are sometimes birthday parties that young people take this opportunity to hang out together, doing something to have enjoyment.

3)The most important party is probably the American high school graduation night. It is usually a kind of the signal to imply that teenage people are entering the adult world. Native people just call it prom (promenade) night. Young adults always regard this ball as the most important event in their high school life so most of the time; boys buy fancy suits or borrow decent clothes from their fathers. Girls wear formal evening dresses and heavy make-ups. The whole dressing thing at a prom has already concluded to a prom style. If you google prom style, thousands of entries will appear. Most of the time, every one who attend the prom has a partner. Boys usually rent sedans to pick up their girlfriends to a fancy dinner and then attend the ball together. Before the night ends, the whole presence will vote for a prom queen and prom king for who is most popular. Another tradition is homecoming party which is an annual tradition of the United States. People, towns, high schools and colleges come together, usually in late September or October, to welcome back former residents and alumni. It is built around a central event, such as a banquet or a game of American football, basketball, or ice hockey. When celebrated by schools, the activities vary widely. However, they usually consist of a football game played on the school's home football field, activities for students and alumni, a parade featuring the school's marching band, and the coronation of a Homecoming Queen (and at many schools, a Homecoming King).

4)When it comes to club, we can hardly put our mind to this kind..We often regard nightclub as a drinking, dancing and entertainment place which usually do not allowed none-adults to go inside.But when they reach 18,they like to hang out in clubs. Club is also a great date place.

5)Besides that, nearly every young people have their own part time jobs to earn money as well as enrich their experience. There are a bunch of jobs they can do. They always work in the nearby malls or at the restaurants on campus. Or some fast food places like McDonalds are also good choices. IN American series we often see teenage girls staying in their neighbor;s house babaysitting, yes, the most common part time job for girls. For boys, they usually help the owner stack goods in supermarkets.

6)Nearly 66%of the teenagers claimed that they had done some volunteering social work last year.44% of them claimed that they had just done it last month.Acually, for American high school students, doing volunteering jobs is a necessary requirement for entering a sound college for it values their performance after school a lot.

7)As you all know, surfing on internet occupied a large portion of out lives, for American teens, they claimed that there are a few web pages they browse: Facebook, the original verion of Xiaonei, I think. And instead of QQ, they usually use aim for chatting with their friends. Nowadays nearly everyone has a blog to write diaries or so. American teens like to use Myspace. For videos, Youtube owns the market.Online shopping also gives them more variet of goods.

8)American youth like hanging out with their friends, the most common way for all people is going to a movie. Oh, they love to watch movies in the cinema-for the ticket price is cheap. Sometimes they watch TV series; one of the most popular ones is Grey's anatomy. Reality shows are also got a high audience rating such as American Idol and Survivor. Some teens just like cartoons like the Simpson's.
