胡锦涛主席在十七大报告中谈到坚定不移发展社会主义民主政治时说，人民民主是社会主义的生命。发展社会主义民主政治是我们党始终不渝的奋斗目标。

\"eople's democracy is the lifeblood of socialism,\" Hu said in his report to the 17th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

Saying that the essence and core of socialist democracy are that the people are masters of the country, Hu proposed that both urban and rural areas gradually adopt the same ratio of deputies to the represented population in the election of deputies to the people's congresses.

胡锦涛主席在十七大报告中强调，人民民主是社会主义的生命。人民当家作主是社会主义民主政治的本质和核心。建议逐步实行城乡按相同人口比例选举人大代表。
