Earthquake
The sudden quakes were shocking a vast field
Between the great river and the cities on seashore.
Old ones and children inside houses were killed.
The earth was torn by Nature's awesome power.
\"Where there is mine,\" it was said, \"disaster comes.\"
Experts behind the sensors charted hundreds of waving.
Upon the undulation on the face of the ground,
Rumors without legs but scudded with flesh wings.
People flew out of their shattering habitations,
Clinging together in the gathering gloom, had to share
The same square of turf, or in the same tent,
Under the somber dome with a moon not clear.
All, hunched, were waiting for a morning unknown,
Seeking a bow in clouds which was never shown.
