Smoking in the Dormitory must be Banned
Smoking in the dormitory must be banned. In most universities of China, because more than two students live in one room, smoking in the dormitory influences others’ daily lives much and does harm to their health.
Firstly, smoking destroys the possibility of cleanliness. It makes so much dirt, such as cigarette ash and stubs, sometimes sputa, which make good sanitation bosh. In my dormitory, the smoker leaves ash, stubs and sputa around the floor, and I cannot bear seeing it. It makes me feel very bad.
Secondly, the sharp, pungent odor of tobacco severely deduces study efficiency. Such pungent odor disturbs our thinking, affects our mood. In such a small room, such influence is direct and grievous. Even when I am indulged in studying, the noise of the lighter gives me a reflection of dreadful feeling, and the following smoke inhaled makes me uncomfortable and coughing. How can I calm down myself to study?
Most importantly, maybe the fatal influence is that, as a roommate of a smoker, I become a second smoker. Especially in winter, when all the doors and windows are closed, the case gets more serious. Our wind-tight room filled with choking clouds of smoke, and I must stay in because of the chilliness. The American Lung Association estimates that about 3,000 lung cancer deaths each year are due to inhaling secondhand tobacco smoke. And according to the research of American Medical Association, smoking does more harmful to the second smoker than the smoker himself, not only in lung cancer, but in heart diseases also. Oh, if I stay in a smoke environment for a long time, I will die soon.
As I said above, because it does much harmful to others, both in study and in health, smoking in the dormitory must be banned. |
