小马过河的故事

    Aug.26又要去香港了。今天一个同事问我：香港好玩不好玩。我愣了一下，觉得不太好回答，就给我同事讲了一个故事：从前有一只小马，来到一条河边，要过河。但他不知道河水有多深，于是他去问小象河水深不深，小象说：河水很浅，我淌着就过去了。小马又去问小羊河水深不深，小羊说：河水很深，千万别去，上次差点把我冲走。最后小马自己去过了一下河，才发现，河水不深不浅，他正好可以渡过河去。

    香港好玩不好玩这种问题，其实和“河水深不深”是同类的问题。很多人都知道小马过河的故事所表达的寓意，但还是一直会有人问类似“河水深不深”的问题。比如，常有人问“去美国念书到底好不好”、“某某某公司到底好不好”、“某某书好看不好看”等等。

     其实，用另一句类似意思的话来说，对于此类问题，应该是“冷暖自知”的。

I am very often like the little horse in the story. But I think this  friend just wants to ask for his friend opinion and then according to his friend answer and his understanding about his friend, he will make his own decision. After all,he finally make a decision by himself.Personally, I think, there is no very obvious link between the story and this experience.But the truth revealed by the story is very good. What seemes suitable for others may not be suitable for us. We finally know something only after we have tried it by ourselves.

  Do you still remember the story of "a pony cross the river"? Long long ago, there is a pony wants to cross a river, but he doesn't know how deep is the river. Then he asks the people he meets. A squirrel tells him the river is so deep that its friend was drowned in this river. However, a cattle tells him the river is so shallow that the water can only cover its knee. Pony is so confused, then he asks his mother the same question. Mother tells him that try it, then know it. The end of this story is, pony cross the river and find the river is neither deep nor shallow.
  The story is short but has profound moral. We need the courage to explore the unkown world bravely. When we do something, we often face other's applause or jeer, or there often have millions impossibilities. What should we do. The story gives us the answer try it, then know it.

What we learnt from the story of "ony crossing the river"

For everything there can be many different points of views.  By looking at different angles or from
different parties the interpretation can be totally different.  Both the cow and the squirrel are
correct on what they said about the depth of the river, because they are saying from their own
perspective. So in addition to understand what the other say, it is sometimes more important to
understand WHY the other say so.  On the other hand, if you want to seek advice from others,
make sure that the advisor understand your needs before just do what you are told !  Lastly, your parents are always helpful !

We had already known the story of Young Ma so long. When saw this topic, I suddenly had some kind of warming feeling. In my view, the story was intend to tell us many truth. In the first place, walk your own road.

In front of the fixed river depth, different person defined perfect differently. The cow thought the river was very shallow, because its physique was large; But the squirrel thought river water was so deep that took away many lives, because its physique was too small. In due to lack of the attempt to cross river, Young Ma whose body was between cow and squirrel could not only make sure the river depth, but also didn't know whose suggestion was correct. In everyone's life, there were not people who had right to tell you how to do, whose experience only was relative to themselves. The only outlet was unceasingly trying and summing up other's lesson. When we prepared the entrance examination for graduate school in 2001, some classmates were doing many exercises, other reciting the text. But I actually insisted on seeing through the dictionary, which was inconceivable in other's eyes. After gnawing the dictionary twice, I suddenly made sense of English more deeply, moreover gained a good result in the test. If followed other choolmates' suggestions, I had never become a graduate student.

Secondly, we should encourage our students to try. Education was able to bring up people, in other hand, it might snuff out a large number of talent. In the course of study, teachers only played a introductory role rather than order students how they ought to do. Otherwise, our students would be in danger of being gawkish. If they did their best to discover the ways and means which were exclusive to them, they would had studyed efficiently and benifited hardly in future.

With unceasing try, we should also sum up other's lesson regularly. Although we had to try by ourselves, we would profit much from other's lesson and experience. Generally speaking, with the help of other's lesson and experience, we would improve ourselves in a decuple rate.

Comply With Other’s Advices or Try It Youself
  At primary school, we were told the story of a little horse crossing through river. In the story, a little horse wanted to cross through a river. A cow told the little horse that the river was shallow; while a squirrel warned him that the river was deep. The little horse was puzzled and did not know what to do. In the end, the little horse decided to try it himself and then he cross through the river.
  The story is simple only. But it’s mean should be think about. That is, when you are faced to something confused, you have to choose. What will you do? Comply with other’s advice ot try it youself?
  Eldership often warn us that we should comply with their advices, otherwise we should suffer loss. Actually, Eldership have many experiences and their advices perhapse are valuable to us. So, it is not a bad thing to comply with their advices.
  On the other hand, most young people have their own thought and want do everything themselves without other’s interfering. Young people have their advantage. They are active, passionate, creative, and so on. They are eager to success. But the most disadvantage they have are that they lack experience. Lacking experience limit the young pepole. So the success is difficult to acquire. At this time, they have to be faced with choice; that is, to comply with other’s advices or go on doing it themselves.
The most simplest thing is to Choose. But the most difficult and painful thing is also to choose. When you make the right choice, success will come later. Similarly, when you make wrong choice, you have to be faced to fail.
In all, you must expand your knowledge and enhance you ability. Then you can make the right choice.
