The growing global reach of Macquarie Bank was underlined yesterday when the Sydney-based investment and infrastructure house reported a 60 per cent rise in annual profits, driven by the expansion of its international operations.

Brushing aside criticism of some of its business practices and of the failure of two recent high-profile buy-outs, the bank added that the present financial year had had a “strong start”.

“All groups in all regions are busy and there have already been significant transactions,” said Allan Moss, chief executive.
Net profits were A$1.46bn ($1.22bn), nearly six times their level five years ago, after a 70 per cent surge in international income which contributed more than half of the group total for the first time. Funds under management rose to A$197bn in the 12 months to March, a year in which the bank led more than $30bn in acquisitions.

该银行的净利润为14.6亿澳元（合12.2亿美元），几乎是5年前的6倍。该银行的国际收入飙升了70%，占该集团收入总额的比例首次超过一半。截至今年3月的12个月中，该银行管理的资金升至1970亿澳元，这一年中麦格理银行进行了逾300亿美元的收购活动。
