零冠词小用简议

“零冠词+单数类名词”结构，在形式上常相当于同位语，起一种描写说明的作用。
如：Thomas Betts, labourer, of no fixed address.
Burke, famous statesman, writer and philosopher, was member of parliament for Bristol from 1774-1780.

此外，零冠词所表示的关系比用冠词时所表示的关系较为密切或更像是一个不可分割的整体。
如：He was son of a tailor.
He was headmaster of Rugby.
上述两句分别强调父与子、校长与Rudby学校二者之间的关系。
又如：han was sole owner of a business worth ten million yuan.
句中sole owner of a businerss 不用冠词则像是一个不可分割的整体，若用冠词the 则显得不那么亲切。
