The UN Children’s Fund UNICEF says children are being overlooked in the fight against the disease. It says only five percent of children infected with HIV receive medical treatment. The UN campaign is focusing on Africa as well as Eastern Europe and Central Asia where UNICEF warns many countries are now on the verge of a major epidemic. Ann Veneman is UNICEF's executive director.

\"Every minute a child dies from an AIDS-related illness, every minute four young people become infected with HIV and tens of millions of children are missing so much of their childhood, they are being deprived of what we think of as a normal childhood.”

Three suicide bombers have carried out a coordinated attack on a hotel complex in the Iraqi Capital Baghdad used by foreign contractors and journalists. About twenty people are believed to have died when the attackers detonated their bombs close to the Palestine and Sheraton hotels within minutes of each other. Most of those killed or injured were security personnel, hotel employees or passers-by. The attacks were carried out using vehicles packed with explosives.
