Taiwan's. President.. Chen Shui-bian has made surprise visits to Libya and Indonesia on his way home from Latin America. President. Chen Shui-bian stopped in Libya on Wednesday before arriving on the Indonesian island of Batam Thursday. He is headed back to Taipei from a trip to Costa Rica and Paraguay.
In Libya, Chen Shui-bian was greeted by family members of leader Muammar Gadhafi. China blasted Libya for allowing the visit. Libya has diplomatic ties with Beijing, which considers Taiwan a renegade province. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao said Thursday Libya had seriously violated its long-term commitment to the one-China policy. He said the visit would have a negative impact on bilateral relations between China and Libya.
