先帮忙纠个错but a stag coming and damaging the pasture,the horse,anxious to have his revenge,asked a man if he could not ASSIST him in punishing the stag,

if he could not assist him in punishing stag 改成 whether he could assist him or not in punishing the stag 当然也可以，但意思多少有点不一样吧。前面一种用法有点象“你就不能", 后面一种用法更象是商量的语气，”你能不能“。
