Be a Fighter
“Be a fighter,” I answered, when a young friend of mine wrote to ask me, “What kind of man should I be?”
“Be a fighter,” I answered again, when another friend of mine asked me, “How should I deal with my life?”
In Ode to the Fighter, the author says:
Swimming in the ceaseless torrent of life, I should pursue it, overtake it, and make it greater and deeper.
Were I a lamp, I would light up the thick darkness. Were I the sea tide, I would stir up big waves to wash all filthy accumulations away from the beach.
This quotation is a precise description of a fighter’s state of mind.
Fighters are badly needed nowadays. They are not necessarily to go to the battlefield with gun in hand. Their weapons are not necessarily guns or bullets. Their weapons may be knowledge, firm faith and strong will. They are not necessarily to draw the enemy’s blood, but absolutely sure of putting him to death.
A fighter is forever going for brightness. He is not to lie in the open enjoying the sunshine, but to light torches in the dark night for people towards daybreak. Driving away darkness is the duty of the fighter. He is not to avoid darkness, but to face darkness and fight with the evils and ghosts hided in the dark. He is to eliminate them for brightness. He is not to compromise, nor stop fighting until he gets brightness. |
