印尼地震死亡人数超过五千 爪哇医院拥挤 (Java Hospitals Crowded as Indonesia Quake Death Toll Surpasses 5,000)

印度尼西亚受地震重创的爪哇岛上的救援工作人员说，目前灾区食物、水以及医疗设备都短缺，但是援助正在慢慢到来。

印尼官员星期一估计，地震造成的死亡人数已经超过5千，近20万人无家可归。已经非常拥挤的医院继续接纳更多的伤者。医生在医院外面做手术。

但是国际援助开始慢慢地进入印尼。当局在受重创的日惹市重新开启了受到损害的机场。印尼总统尤多约诺在灾区领导救援工作。

一架联合国救援飞机为灾情最严重的日惹省班图尔地区带去水、帐篷、烹饪器具以及成套的卫生用品。美国军方表示，正在向灾区派遣医疗人员，运送设备和补给。

其它一些国家也承诺提供资金和援助。

Relief workers on Indonesia's earthquake-battered Java island said they are running short of food, water and medical supplies, but aid is slowly arriving.

Indonesian officials today (Monday) estimated that more than five thousand people died and nearly 200-thousand were made homeless in the disaster. Injured people continue to arrive at already overcrowded hospitals. Doctors are now performing surgeries outside.

But international aid has begun to trickle in and authorities have reopened the damaged airport in hard-hit Yogyakarta city. Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is in the area, supervising relief efforts.

A U.N. relief plane brought water, tents, cooking sets and hygiene kits destined for the worst-hit district of Bantul. The U.S. military says it is sending medical personnel, equipment and supplies to the region.

Several other nations have pledged cash and aid.
