昨日重现
Yesterday
Once More
When I was young, I'd
listen to the radio, waiting for my favorite songs. When they played I'd sing
along. It made me smile. Those were such happy times, and not so long ago. How I
wondered where they'd gone. But they're back again, just like a long-lost
friend. All the songs I loved so well. Every sha-la-la-la, every wo-wo still
shines. Every shing-a-ling -a-ling, that they're starting to sing, so fine. When
they get to the part where he's breaking her heart, it can really make me cry.
Just like before, it's yesterday once more. (Shoo-bee-do-lang -lang,

Looking back on how it was in years gone
by, and the good time that I had, makes today seem rather sad; so much has
changed. It was songs of love that I would sing to them, and I'd memorize each
word. Those old melodies still sound so good to me, as they melt the years away.
All my best memories come back clearly to me; some can even make me cry. Just
like before, it's yesterday

「加州旅館」是流行音樂史上的一首搖滾經典，這首歌曲於1976年推出以後，不僅很快的佔據排行榜冠軍，也使得老鷹合唱團在美國的地位更加鞏固，樂評界一致稱許該團為美國本土最偉大的搖滾樂團。
寫作並主唱這首歌的團員唐亨利表示，歌詞內容是反映他們生活在好萊塢必須面對的殘酷現實，那段日子對他們而言，每天都像是萬聖節一樣，充滿了性、毒品與精神上的各種試煉。然而，這首長達六分多鐘的作品，在當時 卻引起許多衛道人士的攻訐，原因是經過六十年代越戰以及嬉皮運\動啟蒙的美國社會，風氣日漸開放，吸食大麻、迷幻藥以追求自我解放的年輕人日益增多，流行音樂界有許多藝人靠著迷幻藥來尋找創作靈感，更是做了最不良的示範。70年代的美國樂壇，就有好幾位重量級的藝人因為吸食過量而斃命，包括「門戶合唱團」（The Doors）的主唱吉姆莫里森（Jim Morrison）、吉米罕醉克斯（Jimi Hendrix）、珍妮絲賈普琳（Janis Joplin）。許多衛道人士憂心世風敗壞，紛紛指陳搖滾樂腐蝕人心，教唆青少年吸毒犯罪，呼籲電台禁播這類歌曲，甚至在街頭當眾銷毀大批的搖滾唱片。「加州旅館」這首當紅的歌，成了眾矢之的，衛道者指責這首歌，就是在描述一個吸毒者的天堂，是撒旦的大本營。
事過境遷，這首歌的魅力不曾稍減，經過時間的沈澱，它成為西洋音樂中一首不可不聽的傑作，末尾那一段雙吉他的演奏尤其成為典範，更動任何一個音符，都會影響其精彩的程度。
註 1：colitas科麗塔，說法有很多種，這裡的解釋算最有根據的，因為作者直接寫信問了老鷹樂團的經理 Irving Azoff──Colatis是西班牙文，指「花蕾」，老鷹樂團用這個字暗指大麻，以避免招來麻煩。(本曲古體詩式的譯本，轉貼於下。)

關於colitas， warm smell of colitas溫熱的柯利塔氣味，其中的「colitas」是什麼意思？很多種說法，有個解釋算最有根據的，colas是大麻葉分類的小秘訣，這個部份比較多汁並且更多吸食後的後勁，就好像檳榔的倒吊子。
註 2：spirit一般做\"精神\"、\"靈魂\"解釋，亦可解釋為：烈酒。
