哪位解释一下两词的细微差别

Am I honoured to have the privilege to ask you a question whether there is a difference between ‘ turn’ and ‘rotate’ as to depict the motion of a rigid body? For example, as it is said that ‘Suppose we have an object, and we want to find its moment of inertia around some axis. That means we want the inertia needed to carry it by rotation about that axis. Now if we support the object on pivots at the center of mass, so that the object does not turn as it rotates about the axis’  what does the ‘turn’ mean here?

呵呵，谈一谈自己的看法吧，先看看两个词在《美国传统字典》中的解释
1.turn＝to cause to move around an axis or a center; cause to rotate or revolve. 使旋转，转动使绕着一个轴或中心移动；使转动或旋转
2.rotate=to turn around on an axis or center.绕轴或中心转动

从字典解释来看，两者的根本区别在于：
turn是围绕一个中心在“旋转”，但是旋转部分和中心点或轴没有接触；如月球绕地球旋转
rotate围绕一个中心在“旋转”，但旋转部分和中心点或轴有接触；如陀螺旋转，地球自转
