一款非常不错英语词典软件——phrasebuilder genie（下载地址在2楼）

这本词典虽然发行多年，但仍受许多用户的喜欢，它的智能取词和collation功能非常实用，以下是从沪江论坛转帖的试用小记：
Oxford Phrasebuilder Genie被誉为沪江历来最难安装的一部词典. 在经历过无数次失败,重装了N次操作系统之后, 今天终于突破了CD-COPS的封锁, 第一次看到Genie那可爱小巧的界面,心里激动之情真是难以言表.

在初步试用这个词典后, 最大的印象是, 无论开始怎么难安装, 无论经过多少挫折, 都是值得的,因为GENIE的特色是其它字典没有的, 那就是: Collocation.

早些时候也下载试用了longman的第四版, 也使用了其中的Phrase bank功能(实际上是一个mini的搭配词库), 但是使用起来却不是很顺手,开始没有找到原因,后来才逐步意识到, longman的这个搭配词库不是一个发散性的搭配词库,而是收敛性的,换句话说, 所有的搭配中lognman只是保守地选择收录了字典上\"典型\"的, 基本已经成为\"成语\"的搭配, 这在某种意义上来说已经不是我们中国的ESL学生所需要的\"搭配\"词典了, longman这种所谓的搭配可以在任何一本现代的英英词典上找到的,下面举一个longman的例子:

归纳一下, Longman的搭配举例(在本词条中)是这样的:
1.举出几个几乎成为固定词条的词组, 如political/economic environment, 这种条目在其它英英字典中即使不当作单独的词条处理,也一定会在例句中出现.(这就是我所说的\"不成其为搭配\"的意思).
2. 举出在其它词条中出现environment这个词的线索, 这为我们学习搭配提供了很好的参考,但致命的弱点是随意性太强: 如果本词典中其它词条的例句编辑中没有这个词,是否就代表没有这个用法? 没有系统的归纳搭配使这个栏目使用起来极端不变.

这部分是最能体现lognman不足的地方,也是oxford phrasebuilder的强项, 初步统计, longman的介词总结了2个, 形容词总结了14个,名词总结了5个,动词总结了10个. 但是这样的归纳是否体现了environment使用时的大部分特征呢? 在总结频率结合方面是否有据可寻呢? 这样单纯的总结搭配而不带具体用法是否对ESL学生有益处了? 在我看来答案都可能是NO.
现在我们再来比较一下oxford phrasebuilder的搭配处理办法,同样是environment一词:

孰优孰劣，从搭配数量，例句形成等方面， 家应该一眼看明白了，所以说oxford的搭配应该是经过系统研究，系统总结，考虑到词与词之间“自由搭配”的现象，很积极的编辑的一部“发散型”搭配字典，是ESL的提高必读书，搭配这方面如果只读LONGMAN，就是很遗憾的事情了。

Oxford Phrasebuilder Genie这个软件包含两个重要的词典，一个是《牛津高级词典》（Oxford Advanced Learner s Dictionary），另外一个则是目前几乎找不到任何其它替代的《牛津搭配词典》（Oxford Collocations Dictionary for learners of English）——国内的书店里。
《牛津搭配词典》包含1万5千个搭配词条。比如，你搜索“house”，那么就可以看到作为一个名词的“house”经常做live in, occupy, share, buy, rent, sell, move into等等动词的宾语（VERB+HOUSE）
拥有这个词典的好处是，我们可以不再必须依赖外教学习英语了。想表达什么，就去查。语言的所谓“地道”使用，更为关键的是在搭配上——发音、语法等等固然重要，但没有搭配重要。可以试想一下
可以试想一下，I hate purple passage with no essential content. （我讨厌金玉其外败絮其中的文章）（passage与purple搭配，或说passage被purple修饰，即构成一个词组，“词藻华丽的文字、段落”）
这句话里面，语法多少有误，purple passage，应该是purple passages[复数]；而content也应该是contents[复数]。但是，即便语法有些错误，一个外国人，把这句有点语法错误的话用不太标准的发音读出来，那么作为交谈对象的以英语为母语的人还是可以一下子完全听懂，沟通即可顺畅完成。这就是搭配的作用。

注意事项：
如果是从网上下载的版本，那么在注册的时候要用个特别古怪的方法：当要求输入注册码的时候（注册码在光盘根目录下cd.key文件里，可以用记事本打开这个文件），要想办法把CPU使用率达到100%（比如，一口气打开十几个视频文件什么的）才能注册通过。一次不行，就多试几次——耐心点。Amazon上有位购买了这张光盘的工程师被气得死去活来：


I recently ordered “Oxford Phrasebuilder Genie” version for single user from Amazon. After weeks of waiting, I was so disappointed as the CD, which I received from Amazon didn t work. In addition to that, I paid tax as the product was delivered to me in Canada. Even when I return the product to Amazon, I don t think that I can claim my tax money back. As a computer expert my self, I had no difficulty in installing the CD. In other words, the problem didn t come from my part. I went to the amazon website and discovered that some other people experienced the same problems.

注册通过之后，大抵上这个软件还是不能使用的。要到牛津出版社的主页是下载一个针对Windows SP2的补丁包。牛津出版社的主站经常因动态更换内容而找不到过往的页面。韩国镜像站上的地址相对固定一些，补丁包地址：http://www.oxford.co.kr/patch/UpdatePBG.exe 。打完补丁，还需要重复一遍前面的注册过程——再耐心点。

这个词典实在是必备的东西，只不过很少有人知道。


原安装文件为602M，如果你可以将CPU使用率达到100%，可以试一试。不过Oxford Phrasebuilder Genie-no protect这个文件是测试通过安装并可以使用的，不用注册。至于少了什么，我比较了一下，词典部分没少，原版中有298M空间是隐藏的用于认证的程序，对我们来说当然是没用的。因此推荐大家下载第一个文件，至于原版你想挑战自己的耐性，那也是无可厚非的。
文件后缀为mdf,nrg都可以用daemon打开。
