Does more mean better in exams?

THE college entrance exam system may be changed to a multi-exam system in the future, according to a Chinese Society of Education (CSE) official.

Tan Songhua, the Society's vice-chairman, made this suggestion after the Ministry of Education announced that it was considering reforming the system.

Tan's ideas were echoed by many educators. Zhu Qingshi, president of Chinese Science and Technology University, said that the single-exam system was no guarantee of intelligence.

Zhu suggested that six high school term exams be included with the college entrance exam for evaluation. He also suggested that school-organized exams be replaced by some standard province-wide tests.

However, other experts believe the move would put too much pressure on high school students before the college entrance exam.
