Is it becoming acceptable to answer the question \"How are you?\" by
saying Good, or Good, thanks, or, Good, and you?

I know fully well that the traditional rule is that one answers \"Fine,
thanks\" or \"Fine, thanks, and you?\" but I think that's going out the
same window that \"It is I\" and \"You're smarter than I\" already went
out by some time ago.

Recently when visiting relatives, who are well-educated,, I was asked
\"How are you\" and \"How've you been?\" and I answered, \"Good, thanks?\"
None of them corrected my grammar. I wonder if they thought to
themselves, \"What, has he become an ignoramus\" or rather, \"He sounds
up-to-date and, in any event, is no pedant\"

Personally, there comes a point where I rebell against saying one
thing to one person and something else to someone else. IOW, I rebell
against saying \"It's me\" to some people and \"It is I\" to others. It
seems vaguely hypocritical and false.
