口语会话 课本上没有的经典习语

以下是一些非常经典实用的idiom，但是课本上却讲不到。如果没接触过它们，有时候碰到一些句子还真的很难理解整句话的意思呢。

1. I want a baker’s dozen.

“Baker's dozen”是数字“13”的意思而不是面包师那里的一打东西。

2. Stop beating around the bush.

“Beat around the bush”意思是说话绕圈子，拐弯抹角。

3. Have you met my better half?

“Better half”是指配偶。

4. The criminal bit the dust.

“Bite the dust”的字面意思是咬住地面上的泥土，这个习语源于美国，现在人们用它来表示“击毙，献身”等意思。句子中的＂bit＂是＂bite＂的过去分词。

5. That show brought down the house.

“Bring down the house＂在这里是形容演出异常精彩，受到了极大的欢迎的意思。

6. She gave me the cold shoulder.

＂Cold shoulder＂是一种不太礼貌的肢体语言，意思是“冷淡，轻视”。

7. The man came clean.

＂Come clean＂是＂坦白承认＂的意思，一般都用在人做错了事坦白承认的时候，不能将它理解为“干干净净”。

8. My sister flew the coop.

＂Fly the coop＂意思是“越狱”。　

9. Today I got the axe.

＂Get the axe＂是指“被解雇了”而不是“掌权或者得到斧子，力量”。

10. Are you going to hit the books tonight?

＂Hit the books＂意思是“看书，学习”.
