并列单数名词前a / an的使用情况

1、两个词同指一物或一人时只用一个a，指两件物品或两个人时，两个词分别用a/an,如：
a red and black skirt一条红黑相间的裙子
a red and a black skirt一条红裙和一条黑裙
a red and white flower红白相间的一朵花，
a red and a white flower 两朵花，一红一白
（用两个a。本来是a red flower and a white flower,将第一个flower省去而留下a;如要将第二个flower省去，则应写成a red flower and a white one)。
an artist and author(指一人兼具艺术家及作家的身分)
  an artist and an author(指两个人)。
2、特别强调(常出现于对比句法中)则虽同一个人，a也应重复使用。如：
He is not only a medical doctor but also an artist.
在不会产生误解时，虽指两个人或物，也可以只用一个a。如：
a boy and girl 一个男孩和一女孩
a woman and child 一个妇女和一个孩子
3、由两件东西构成的“成套用品”前，一般只用一个冠词，如：
a watch and chain 旧式挂表，带有链子，作一件算，用一个冠词
a cup and saucer (杯及碟配为一付，饮茶或咖啡时，西方习俗总是一起端出来)。
