于英国卡地夫威尔士市的Donna，早在6岁时她就开始接触和弹奏钢琴。启蒙老师即Donna的父亲还引导小Lewis学着创作自己的歌曲，而这时她才只是一个青少年。逐渐Donna长大成人，在Welsh大学戏剧学院主修长笛和钢琴在古典作品中的运用。毕业后，她先是在萨塞克斯教授音乐课程，一年后，她搬到了伯明翰，加入了当地的酒吧乐队。早年父亲的努力和她在乐队的表演经历培养了她的歌唱素质和词作的才能。使她在伯明翰当地成为了小有名气的歌手。1990年她已经作为钢琴独奏和合声的一部分开始穿梭于英国及欧洲大陆间的各种酒吧。同时，她还建立了自己的家庭音乐工作室，录制了许多的样带。
