BROWNE QUITS BOARD OF GOLDMAN SACHS

Lord Browne has resigned as a board member at Goldman Sachs in the wake of revelations that he lied to a UK High Court judge. The decision came a week after Lord Browne stepped down earlier than planned as chief executive of BP.

Lloyd Blankfein, Goldman chief executive, praised Lord Browne for his eight years of service as director, a period in which Goldman transformed itself from a private partnership to the most profitable publicly traded investment bank on Wall Street.
