法国钢琴家瓦尔特·吉泽金（WALTERGIESEKING）1895年11月5日生于里昂，4岁时显露出对钢琴的浓厚兴趣，在一位老师的辅导下，6岁就能弹奏舒曼的名作《幻想曲》、1911年考入汉诺威音乐学院。1915年，以演绎贝多芬全部32首奏鸣曲从学院毕业。
吉泽金是有史以来最伟大的钢琴家之一。他的演奏感情丰富，对自由节奏的处理极具分寸感，分句清晰，触键准确，每个音弹出来都平衡、均匀。无论是实况音乐会或是唱片录音，他的琴声总带有很高的稳定感，强音感觉非常轻盈，弱音如同水中涟漪般地平静波动，音色异常澄清、优美。
作为一名钢琴家，基本的视谱演奏与听觉记忆是两个很重要的个人能力。在这方面吉泽金也是出类拔萃的。他仅仅在看一次总谱后，就能上台背谱演奏，即便是一首全新的作品，他也能边看谱边演奏，中间毫无滞涩、生疏感。
强调演奏的歌唱性、精确性，是他风格的集中体现。吉泽金的分句细致通畅，让旋律能贯穿交融在一起，达到听觉上无与伦比的美感。他常常说：“旋律要用优美的方式唱出来，而不是用手指在键盘上敲打出来。要想方设法地演奏出一种既富歌唱性又能持续而延长的声音。”
由于从小受到法国与德国两种音乐教育传统的熏陶，吉泽金的演奏曲目从古典到近代几乎无所不包，像巴赫、莫扎特、贝多芬、舒伯特、肖邦、勃拉姆斯、德彪西、拉威尔等作曲家的所有作品，均是他擅长的。
