The Israeli army says rockets fired from the Gaza Strip hit a residential area of Defense Minister Amir Peretz's home town. Israeli radio reports one of the rockets landed near Mr. Peretz's home Wednesday. The army says some buildings were damaged but there were no casualties.
A day earlier, four Palestinians were killed in a Gaza gunbattle (near the town of Beit Lahiya) with Israeli troops, who were making their deepest incursion into the Palestinian territory since Israel withdrew from Gaza last year. The Israeli military says the men were preparing to fire rockets into Israel. The militant group Islamic Jihad says its members were involved in the clash.
