芝加哥的历史沿革

第一个定居者（1779年） 　　
18世纪时，现在的芝加哥地区是伯塔瓦托米（Potawatomi）印第安部落的领地。1779年，一个来自海地的黑人商人——杜萨布尔（Jean Baptiste Point DuSable）定居芝加哥，他娶伯塔瓦托米人为妻，并在芝加哥北岸开设了这一地区第一家货栈。

五一国际劳动节的起源（1886年） 　　
1886年5月1日芝加哥几十万工人举行罢工，争取八小时工作日，取得了巨大胜利。五一国际劳动节即起源于此。
