肯尼亚人口３８６１万（２００９年）。全国共有４２个民族，吉库尤族为最大部族，占全国人口的２１％，其次是卢希亚族、卡伦金族、卢奥族和康巴族等。此外，还有少数印巴人、阿拉伯人和欧洲人。斯瓦希里语为国语，斯瓦希里语和英语并列为官方语言。全国人口的３８％信奉基督教新教,２８％信奉天主教，６％信奉伊斯兰教，其余信奉原始宗教和印度教。在肯尼亚明显感觉这儿的人没有在南非见到的黑人那样肥胖，大部分人感觉瘦高，由于体型较瘦，加之皮肤黑，头发短，乍一看，有时还真的分不清男女来。
