“mean to” “expect to”
There’s an exercise like the following:—Why haven’t you bought any butter?
—I _______ to, but I forgot about it.
A. liked B. wished C. meant D. expected
“mean to” “expect to” both have the meaning “意欲”,I can not decide which one to choose.
Waiting here for your kind reply with explanation, please! I think "mean to" is the right answer, "mean" means "have in mind"or "have as one's purposeor intention " ,with some effort, but "expect " means "regard as likely "or "look for as appropriate or one's due ", without any effort. 选C. meant吧
mean to do 是原本打算做的意思,但常常有实际事与愿违的意味;
expect to do 更多是期待、期望了,而且多半是确定的心理。
好像如此。。。 Thank 一尘 曼迪
for your kind answers.
However, the key is "I expected to".
I don't know why. Is it wrong? mean to一般用于否定句吧
I didn't mean to.(我不是故意的) 引用第4楼petersheng于2007-12-16 19:55发表的 :

不是这样的吧!! 牛津初级英汉双解词典对mean的解释以及例句:
词义:plan or want to do something
例句:I meant to phone you, but I forgot.
因此答案选C应该不会错吧。 不错的了,就是选C的。。。 引用第6楼lucy12345678于2007-12-16 21:36发表的 :
