Contrary contrary to

So far as I know, the two main uses of contrary are as an adjective to
describe a person, e.g. \"she is very contrary\" (with the stress on the
second syllable of contrary) and also as an adjective with a different
but related meaning , e.g. \"contrary to your belief\" (here with the
first syllable stressed).

Is there a technical term for an adjective that can take a preposition
after it, in order to continue its meaning? In that sense, \"contrary\",
or for that matter \"different\", is different from, say, \"red\". Though
I suppose somebody will now come up with some contrary construction,
such as: \"She was red to her roots\". (Not a good example, but you know
what I mean...)
