Without \"At the request of the king,\" you still have a fully
grammatical sentence. The \"request\" clause just adds extra
information, giving the listeners more background for the reason
why the juggling act will be performed.
Use it as a stronger reason/justification.
- I was summoned into the courtroom at the request of the judge.
This is very similar to the first example, but the two clauses are
more strongly linked.
It's quite formal and you can probably reword a sentence to remove
\"at the request of\" so that it sounds more casual.
For example:
- I'll be performing my five-ball juggling act tonight because the
king asked me to.
- I was summoned into the courtroom by the judge.
